Purpose: It contains the mappings of IP addresses and applications host name. E.g., "127.0.0.1 localhost"is the sample HOSTS file entry. It means, if you request for "http://localhost/default.aspx" url, IIS will translate this url to "http://127.0.0.1/default.aspx" using windows HOSTS file entry.
Location: Generally HOSTS file is located at "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc"
Open run > type drivers > click OK > go to etc folder
